Amazon shows off new all-electric Prime Air drone that will start delivering packages ‘within months’ –

Amazon shows off new all-electric Prime Air drone that will start delivering packages ‘within months’ – | GLOBAL TECHNOLOGY XYZ | Scoop.it
Amazon’s drone ambitions took another step forward on Wednesday as the tech giant revealed its latest delivery drone design. At Amazon’s re:MARS Conference, Amazon executive Jeff Wilke showed off a fully-electric drone that can fly up to 15 miles and deliver packages under five pounds in less than 30 minutes.
Al Cannistra's insight:

Surely Bezos has good intentions here – but it may become his folly. Perhaps his money – and that of the shareholders – would be best spent expediting the “beam me up Scotty” technology or Next Generation of delivery methods without cluttering up the skies. Of course it will be a little more challenging – especially the part about not rematerializing a package inside a wall – or worse!

Mystery of the cargo ships that sink when their cargo suddenly liquefies

Mystery of the cargo ships that sink when their cargo suddenly liquefies | GLOBAL TECHNOLOGY XYZ | Scoop.it
Think of a dangerous cargo and toxic waste or explosives might come to mind. But granular cargoes such as crushed ore and mineral sands are responsible for the loss of numerous ships every year. On average, ten “solid bulk cargo” carriers have been lost at sea each year for the last decade.

Solid bulk cargoes – defined as granular materials loaded directly into a ship’s hold – can suddenly turn from a solid state into a liquid state, a process known as liquefaction. And this can be disastrous for any ship carrying them – and their crew.

liquefied cargo sinks ships!
